Favorite show, by year... |
Slow night here at the forum, so I hope folks will indulge me. It is an OLD, worn thread, but I would like to hear from folks, especially new comers, as to favorite shows by year--that is, just off the top of your head, if you have them, list your five favorite shows from five different years.
Over the past year there have been many similar postings, so that most of us know Dr. Flashback's 'top ten' listing, and a hard working forumite put together an exhaustive listing of top shows by votes a while back, but I am thinking newcomers could add new insights. I am being entirely selfish as I use such lists to explore new shows.

Hey--great: I have 73, 78 and 87 (probably due to your tips) already...cool. Will check the other two--that 77 one is the one at Cornell that a lot of folks talk about, right? And June of 76--saw a number of shows that year, but not in June. Will track it down. I listened to part of 87 again over the weekend--that is a great one indeed. I love Garcia singing La Bamba. The only show I have from the 80s (don't hate me--it's taking me a while with all the shows I keep getting upgraded on for my 68-70 era period).

those second week june shows are great (to be honest i'm not sure i quoted my fav -it may be the 10th can't remember right now) - would be happy to send you the show if you want (may have a couple if memory serves) - they are smooth and silky if you like that kind of dead - very jazzy and mellow.

Thanks Dire; I have your email around here somewhere, but let me take a few more weeks to get through all the new 68 & 69 stuff that's arrived of late before even thinking about adding more (yikes--ext hard drive is filling...).

Did we have to be at the show? Or just any of our favorites? My recall is pretty shot so it's difficult either way... ;) Right now I'd have to say 7/8/78 again... "...Tell you where the four winds dwell..."

Usually, what I listen to is dependent on my mood. Sometimes I want some early stuff - like 68-71. Sometimes the jazzy era from 72-74 is more appropriate. Sometimes it is the high energy 80's-90's. I just listed off some favorite tapes when making that list. I am sure if asked again in a few weeks it would be different.

Understood. It's funny, but I am the complete opposite and my wife often observes: "you have dozens of these things laying around but you have played that one (10-12-68) six times this week!?"

I just recently got a copy of the 20 Jan 68 show, and it is damn good. Love the other early ones too. Will defn add the mid 70s to my foray into post Pig material.
